Hi Anie,

This is what i think a thal major should be taking,if you are talking about supplements only.

Folic acid
Calcium
Magnesium
Vitamin D
Vitamin E
Vitamin C (when taking desferal)
Zinc
IP6 (If available)

And any kind of multivitamin which does not contain Iron.

Some one remind me if i am missing anything.

Zaini.

A proper dose of calcium and magnesium helps your heart to function properly, and vitamin D helps in absorption of calcium.

I am sorry but i am also unable to find any tablet containing calcium, magnesium and vitamin D,tabs with calcium and Vitamin D are available though.Ayesha i think we'll have to bug Dr Anwar this time to get our answers  :huh .

Manal,

The problem is all international brands are not avaiable here in Pakistan, and ordering them online can be very expensive,so i guess we'll have to find some brand which is localy available.

Thanks for the link though  :hugfriend.

Zaini, it is the same here in Egypt too. Actually  international brands are sold 20 times more than it real price. This supplement i found i Dubai airport pharmacy and i got as much as i can and then either i will continue it if i have any friends travelling or i will just have a local brand. the bad thing about local brands is that they are in pills form and at the same time you don't have all the 4 things togather.

Sometimes i am worried about our children's stomach getting ulcers from all these pills and syrups they are taking :wah

Manal,

The point you brought up about giving kids all these pills is valid and reason to make sure that we use good quality supplements that don't contain a lot of junk fillers, colors and artificial flavorings. I will not take any supplement without reading the label first and there should be some standard in the minds of parents when choosing supplements.
Andy

All we are saying is give thals a chance.

Hey Andy,

I know am hyping it a bit too much, but I don't have an option. I had been for my transfusion yesterday and asked the pharmacy whether I'll get Centrum Silver as its not marketed my Wyeth in India. He said yes, he could arrange for me but it would cost a bit more than what the actual cost is, as it is imported.

Now, I just want to finalize it with you that surely can I go ahead with this drug? Are you satisfied with its contents? I asked my doc too, he said as long as there in no iron in it, you can go ahead.

\peace/
My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. In between, I occupy myself as best I can.
