Okay I have a question, my hemoglobin is finally up to 10.8 but my hematologists says my anemia is really low and wants me to take 325 mg of iron (ferrous sulfate) twice daily for thirty days. I have taken it now for two days and it seem to make my stool black and my left side of my abdomen hurt... Any advice? Should i not take the iron pills?

Hi,
If you are a thal minor, you shouldn't take iron unless its tested that your iron is low,and this can be checked by doing a panel of tests calles iron studies, has your doctor done that?

I would suggest stopping the iron if it causes so much discomfort. Even if iron studies were to show you are low in iron, you would need to find another form of iron to take that doesn't cause your abdomen to hurt.
