I go every month, but at the way things are going, I might have to go more often. My pre-transfusion Hb, at it's best is about 9. I know it's probably way lower than any of you would accept. I feel find at 9 so I let it be.

Actually, I would love to have a 9 for my pretransfusion HgB.  Except for recently, I had been going in with a 7 or 8 HbG after only 2 weeks, and I was getting two units each time.  I don't know what's going on with my body recently, but my HbG has been higher, but I was in the 7's and 8's for years.  I don't think a 9 is bad at all, especially after a whole month.  That's awesome!  :biggrin

Are you a Major, Eponine?

Not necessarily,  :biggrin mine usually hovers between 8 and 9.5, too .... but, it is trade-off between the extra iron and some tiredness.
It's also got to do with body weight and I have put on some weight in the last few years, which has increased my "consumption" of blood. But, so far, I have resisted my doctor's advice of increasing the transfusion regime ... I go abt once in 15 days.

Do you have your spleen? If yes, is it enlarged? If yes, then you have probable cause right out there. The spleen is eating up your RBCs.

Yes, I still have my spleen, and its enlarged.  However, the past few months, my HgB has been higher than normal, which is odd to me.  I haven't had a pre-transfusion HgB of 10.5 since I was in my teens, and that is what I went in with last week.   :huh

I have been seeing doctors about my spleen, and we've been talking about removing it, but I want to make sure it's really necessary before its done.   :sadyup
